UK universities suggest ways to monitor Tier 4 visa student attendance

A UK vice-chancellor has warned that UK universities may be compelled to use swipe cards that monitor foreign student attendance to comply with tough new UK immigration rules.

Quintin McKellar, vice-chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire, said the university was considering introducing an electronic registration system that would allow the school to prove that its foreign students on Tier 4 visas were attending lectures.

McKellar said he came to this conclusion following recent visits from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) to Hertfordshire’s campus as part of the government’s crackdown on Tier 4 student visa abuse.

In order to gain the UKBA’s highly trusted sponsor status, all UK higher education institutions must provide evidence that their non-European Union students are actively attending courses.

Report reveals UK immigration numbers expected to fall in 2012

A recent report by the Institute for Public Policy Research, an independent think-tank, predicted that the number of migrants coming to the UK from outside the EU will fall by about 10 per cent in 2012. The continuing financial crisis, in addition to the government’s attempts to reduce the number of immigrants coming into the UK, is expected to lead to the decrease in immigrant numbers.
Although UK immigration numbers were lower in 2011 than in 2010, the numbers far exceed the government’s original goal of reducing immigration to “tens of thousands”, according to the report.

The report also gave a critical assessment of the government’s approach to immigration numbers, stating that UK immigration’s strategy to lower immigrant numbers is likely to harm any prospect of economic recovery.

The Green Card Process – Pavement to be an NRI

Every Indian desires to stay abroad, work there and to spend rest of his life proudly as an NRI. To implement this desire into reality is not a one go process; it takes its own time and rigorous formalities to get a Permanent Residential Card from US government also known as Green Card.

A Green card permits an alien to reside and take employment in USA. It is an Identification card, serves as a proof that card holder is a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) and has been legally granted immigration benefits.

Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is an agency formerly responsible to issue Green cards.
