L1 is a working class visa for the United States of America. Upon receipt of the approval on the L1 visa petition, your original documents would be required to be submitted. Under mentioned are the list of documents that would be required for the same.

The first requirement for the L1 visa would be a completed DS 156. This is the non immigration visa application form.

The next document in line that would be required would be the DS 157. This should also be completed in all respect.

Original receipt of the visa fee paid. This receipt would be issued by HDFC bank. (The HDFC bank would be applicable only if the application is from India).

A copy of the appointment letter for the interview at the embassy. This should be obtained at the time when the appointment was set up originally at the VFS.

A valid passport would also be required. Please note the passport should have a validity of more than six months at least.

A copy of the latest resume of the applicant would be required.

A copy of the original L1 petition that was submitted to the USCIS at the time of applying for the L1 visa.

A letter would also be required from your employer to the consulate would also be required, requesting for a L1 visa for your, it should also have details about your employment in the United States.

The above mentioned letter should be accompanied with all the other legal paper work that you should have received from your employer in the United States.

2 photographs would be required, the specification for this is that, the photos should be 2” by 2” (50mm) square in shape, there should be no head covering, the background should be absolutely white in color. Please note that the United States consulate is extremely particular about these photographs. But you need not worry; any photo studio you visit would be doing it for you, if you tell them that it’s for the United States embassy.

Last but certainly not the least; you would be required to attach the demand draft for the visa issuance fee. You can know about the latest applicable rates either from the bank or from the net.

Being prepared with the above mentioned documents, would make your experience smooth at the United States consulate.

For people who are already a citizen in the United States, for them there are primarily 2 ways to get their spouses to the United States to live with them.

The first one would be to file an immigrant petition filing for an alien relative. This is done using the immigration petition form I-130. The next step up on the receipt of the approval on the petition filed, you would be required to visit the United States consulate in your home country and get the physical immigrant visa. The third step would be to file for your Employment Authorization Card (EAD). The fourth step would be to file for your SSN or the social security number; this is done at the social security office. This concludes the required step for the first option.

The other option would be using the Non immigrant visa for your spouse. This visa is also known as the K3 visa. This K3 visa is sort of a temporary provision for the spouses to come over to the United States and stay together on a temporary basis. While the formalities for the formal spouse immigration is still pending. There are some specifications that needs to be taken care of for the K3 visa.

The application for the K3 visa needs to be filed in the country where the actual marriage took place. It is important that the said K3 visa has to be issued from the same country where the marriage had actually taken place. Once this visa issuance is complete then the spouse can travel to the United States and wait for the time period that would be required for the, actual immigration visa paperwork to be complete.

The filing for the said visa can be done in the nearest US consulate and in case there are children staying with the spouse, as a result of the marriage such children may apply for a K4 visa. Point to be noted here is that such children should essentially be below the age of 21.

Once the spouse has traveled to the United States on such a visa, then in the States they would have to file for the Adjustment of Status (AOS) this is done by filing the form I-485.

The next most important thing would be getting the eligibility for a job thus the next logical step would be filing for the employment authorization card or the EAD.

Once that is done then is the turn for the SSN. The spouse would be required to visit the social security office, and file for the social security number there.

If you are one of the millions of people for whom visa has been refused there could be a million reasons to that. Also the officer at the United States consulate might even choose to not even give you a reason for the refusal. Now you must be thinking how rude is that supposed to be.

But my friend like I said there could be a million reasons why your visa has been refused from it some very common reasons have been listed here.

If the visa officer thinks or has proof that you have done some fraud or misrepresentation in your visa application then they might choose to totally reject your application.

In case you have a whole bunch of criminal records or some charges that were pressed against you which are pending as on date, that might lead your visa application to a refusal.

In case the visa officer thinks that you could be a potential security threat to the nation then they would have all the rights to reject your visa application. Am sure that is very much understandable after all no body likes a bunch of criminals or terrorists to be there in the country.

If you are not able to prove strong ties to the country of your current residence, or in other words the country of which you are a citizen then you stand bright chances that you visa application may be rejected.

If the visitor is short of a legitimate reason for the trip to the United States in that situation the person is considered to be shady and entry is not permitted to the person into the United States.

If you are a person who does not have the required amount of arrangements to stay or incur the expenses while you are in the United States then also the visa could be refused.

In case you are not having a health insurance covering the full stay then also the visa officers may choose to reject you visa application.

The United States ensures that the traveler is being met in person before issuing a visa for him. In this meeting they would ask you certain question that would be from a moral character judging perspective. In case they consider you do not meet the standards than chances are that they would not issue your visa.
