What is a J1 Visa?

A lot of people are issued J1 visas every year to enter the United States. This is permitted by the Mutual Educational and the Cultural Exchange Act (1961).

The whole purpose behind this J1 visa program was to increase knowledge sharing and mutual understanding, Between the United States and the rest of the world. This is because of the fact that the United States government was looking forward to establish a long lasting friendly relationships with other countries. Thus what could be better than sharing knowledge and culture as a first step towards establishing the friendship?

B1 and B2 Visas for the US

The B1 visa is issued for the Business travelers to the United States and the B2 Visa is issued to visitors who intend to spend some time in the United States just for pleasure. Normally these two types of visas are issued simultaneously. What that would mean for you is in case you are already holding a B1 visa and you wish to travel to the United States simply for pleasure for maximum of three months then in this case you need not apply for a fresh Visa, the old one should be good enough for you.
