According to new research half of all foreign professionals would consider immigrating to London if they ever looked to work overseas. Next on the list of popular destination cities was New York at 28 percent, Singapore at 16 percent, Paris at 15 percent and Sydney at 10 percent. Dubai, Tokyo, and Shanghai were also in the top destination Cities for foreign professionals.

160,000 job-seekers in a range of sectors from banking to telecommunications participated in the survey. The survey findings revealed that London with its banking, legal and creative industries is still a major attraction to workers from all over the world.

According to the statistics, the majority of the professionals immigrating to London are foreign workers from countries facing economic difficulties – particularly from Portugal, Ireland and Greece. Additionally, nearly half of survey participants also cited the higher standard of living in the UK as the main reason to move to and work in London.

“Jobseekers have become more flexible on where they’ll work, and with English as their first language they have a advantage,” said Mike Booker of totaljobs.com, which conducted the survey.

Interestingly the report also found that 63 percent of UK professionals would be happy to work abroad, up from 47 percent from two years ago; Many are looking for higher living standards abroad.

An investigation carried out by Somerset County Council has seen the fake ‘Glastonbury University’ website removed.
It was feared that the website, which promoted a fictitious university, was being used to target unsuspecting applicants, particularly in the Far East. A London university reported the site after receiving an application from a student who claimed to have a degree from Glastonbury University.
Investigations by Somerset County Council trading standards officers have resulted in the domain name and site being removed by specialist Metropolitan Police officers.

The investigation also revealed that the address given on the website for the university is actually an empty office building in the centre of town, and the impressive glass building featured on the site is in fact a library belonging to the University of Leicester.

The trading standards investigation involved contact with overseas companies and regulators including the Florida FBI, as well as correspondence with central government, and culminated in the domain name’s removal from the world wide web. This was achieved in co-operation with the police central e-crime unit of the Metropolitan Police.

The Board of Immigration Appeal (BIA) has just held that a visa beneficiary is not allowed to retain his F2A preference status by opting out of automatic conversion to the F1 category as a son of a United States citizen upon his parent’s naturalization. Matter of ZAMORA-MOLINA, ID 3729, 25 I&N Dec. 606 (BIA 2011)

The mother of the beneficiary son filed a visa petition on his behalf when he was under the age of 21. However, while the case was waiting for a visa number, the son turned 21 and, subsequently, the mother became a naturalized citizen.

The regulation automatically converts a F2A (minor unmarried child of resident parent) and F2B (adult unmarried child of resident parent) petition to be an immediate relative and F1 petition respectively upon the naturalization of the petitioner. 8 C.F.R. § 204.2(i)(3)

Section 6 of The Child Status Protection Act (CSPA), also known as section 204(k)(2) of the INA, allows an alien to affirmatively opt out of automatic conversion from the F2B category to the F1 category by filing a written statement with the Attorney General. However, BIA held that there is no provision of law that allows an applicant to “opt out” of automatic conversion from F2A to F1 when the petitioner-parent becomes a citizen. Hence, the son in this case is not able to adjust his status by using the current cut-off date under the Mexico F2A preference category.

This is a very important decision on a controversial issue. BIA did not address the Equal Protection argument raised by the son as it lacks authority to rule on Constitutional issues. However, the issue is hardly settled and will likely be revisited by a federal court soon.

Canada is currently struggling to deal with a backlog of immigration applications.

The backlog of immigration applications is hurting Canada’s reputation as a top immigration destination for skilled migrants. In some cases people are choosing Australia as an alternative immigration destination.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said that the situation was a “huge problem”. He has spoken frequently about the need to streamline the application process and get the backlog under control.

A number of hearings on the matter are due to take place before the House of Commons immigration committee.

Critics say that while the government talks about alleviating the backlog, they are also continuing to accept large numbers of new Canadian immigration applications, so exacerbating the problem.

“While Canada continues to welcome historically high numbers of new immigrants, and maintains the most open and generous immigration system in the world, we have to carefully manage the large number of people who want to be Canadian,” a spokesperson for Kenney told the Globe and Mail.

The government asserts that since 2008, they have reduced the rate of increase in the backlog through measures which limit immigration in certain areas, such as the investor route.

Moreover, people who apply as skilled workers and have experience in a prioritized job sector are fast tracked and have their applications approved within months.

The people who suffer the longest waiting times include parents and grandparents of permanent residents and immigrants who applied before the changes introduced in 2008.

Global Visa Support offers a new “Canada-Study-Migrate” program, which is the fastest way to get into Canada, please see the details here: http://on.fb.me/n5yNsu

Work permit is a basic or the generic (without any brand) term for the legal authorization which allows one to have employment. It is generally given to that person who is not holding the citizenship of the country, but is permitted to work in the same country. He is also allowed to work under some of the terms and conditions i.e. under some jurisdictions that he is permitted legally to do the work.

There are many standard ways to apply for the work permit in any of the country and they are as following:

The training and the work experience arrangements.

Student internships.

GATS.

The business and commercial arrangements.

The sports people and entertainers arrangements.

The sectors based scheme.

Each of these processes requires its own different applications and the job offer from the employer in that country only. Some of the countries provide the work permit only to the people who are attached to the categories of arrangements above whilst they reject the other ones.

The work permit systems in some of the countries are replaced by the new points based immigration systems. In some of the smaller countries the work permit is managed by the Ministry of Manpower that has introduced an internet platform for work permit transactions. With the internet portal, the ministry is able to process many of the work permit applications within one working day alone.

In some of the countries for the permission of work it has been taken into account many of the things like skills (including all the education), work experience if ever in any other country had performed, and importantly the type of the job applied for. Some of the people have also been restricted for the duration of the time they are permitted to work as well as it depends on the type of the job. Usually high school students are offered the jobs for timings.

Green card is actually a permanent resident card which gives somebody the right to work and live permanently in US. Green card holder has to follow rules and law of the immigration as well as being registered properly with the US government.

Nevertheless, there are limitations for those who wish to leave the country for quite a long time, whether it is for work purpose or vacation. They need to know how long they can stay outside the country without losing their Green Card or permanent resident status.

So, in order for them to avoid the risk of losing the status, they need to get a document called “Reentry Permit” from the USCIS before traveling.

It is not so easy for Indians to get their US Green Card. This is because they need to undergo some processes which sometimes may take years to obtain it.

Many Indian software engineers who hold H1B or any H1 visa think that they need not to worry about applying for Green Card since they have a total of six years and only worry about it until their third or fourth year.

This is wrong as you should apply as early as you can since many Indian immigrants suddenly change their mind to stay in US after three years working. You should start applying within the first year. Do keep your English version of your birth certificate, education degrees and experience letters in hand.

One more thing, if you are planning on getting married, it is advisable for you to get married while you are holding your H1 visa and before the approval of your Green Card.

This is because, your wife/husband-to-be will enter the United States using H4 visa which is the spouse visa. Therefore, the time before your application of I-485 (final step to get Green Card) is the best time to get married.

For your information, the process of obtaining Green Card involves three stages which is Labor Certification, I-140, and I-485. So, you can add your wife/husband-to-be the application of your I-485 so that you and her/him will obtain the Green Cards together.

Nowadays, it is quite hard to get a Green Card. So, you have to apply for your Green Card as early as you can. After you already got your Green Card, you can start applying for US citizenship after five years of the approval of your Green Card. Lastly, you might also want to consider for the application of Indian overseas citizenship.
